This was a studies project for a class called “Maschinenträume” (=machine dreams). I invented a fictional alternative world history in which people still travel by Zeppelin airships instead of planes. A world where comfort is more important than saving time to maximize profit. A world without the second world war, without nuclear threat and without the arms race between East and West.

I created one civil and one military airship which are displayed in different ways. The civil one, “Eckener”, is designed for landing on the tops of skyscrapers. As it was planned in reality (!), I redesigned the top of the Empire State Building in New York City to make this possible. In reality the architects of the Empire State Building dropped this idea because the wind up there was too strong. In my fiction the “Eckener” has an automated system with four free adjustable propellers that allows the vessel to compensate the wind to guarantee a safe landing.
